portrait of George

To accompany my mother's, here is a portrait of my father. Painting his skin tones reminded me of painting my grandmother; something in the way their skin holds shadow calls for a surprising amount of rose madder and quinacridone rose, enlivened with just a smidge of yellow or ochre to give it glow. The lights on the left side of the painting (his right) demanded cool lavenders and even viridian, tying in nicely with his shirt and disarming the deep oranges of his cheek and neck. His eyes came especially easy to the brush—I had a feeling they would. Hope you like it, dad!
