want to play?
I went to photograph this little guy and his cousin last winter. He immediately greeted me at the door, no sooner learning my name than whisking me off to his playroom to show me all his favorite toys. His cousin is sweet and demure, with a shy little smile. Both were a delight to photograph and paint, each with their unique challenges.
This portrait is infused with lots of pure, limpid light; I had to make sure he took on that glow without getting washed out. His grandmother had pastel portraits done of her children when they were small, and his father is holding a toy car in his as well; we thought it would be a nice tribute, as well as a tool to keep his hands still while photographing!
